Fran is a UKA Accreddited Drama teacher, with 15 years experience of writing, performing and directing community theatre. After studying Creative writing and English literature at university, Fran turned her attentions to writing for theatre, as well as performing and directing various childrens theatre and local pantomimes. Fran now runs our Youth theatre and our Creative Writing Groups.
After setting up a dance and drama school in 2012, Fran worked to attain her Drama Teaching Qualifiction, offering examinations and medals in drama - this lead to the idea of a youth theatre centred in east cleveland. Having met Barry and Andrea from East Cleveland Arts in 2018, Fran proposed the idea for East Cleveland Youth Theatre, producing a variety of shows, including musicals, plays and outdoor theatre productions, for children and young people of all ages, up to 21.
Returning to Guisborough Pantomime Group (having gotten the acting bug aged 14 in their production of Jack and the Beanstalk) after 14 years, Fran set to assisting backstage, costuming and chaperoning the chorus, then moving on to assisstant director, and finally writer and director. This experience spurred her on in creating East Cleveland Youth theatre, realising that whilst Guisborough had a suitable outlet for the creative and talented young people, there was very little available in loftus, brotton and skelton, that did not require travel to larger towns.
